Account takeover: Gaining control of another user’s account — usually by chaining several smaller flaws into one exploit path. The outcome boards actually fear.

In plain language

Account takeover is rarely a single bug. It is a password-reset weakness plus a leaked token, or an OAuth misconfiguration plus an IDOR — individually modest, chained into controlling someone’s account. The value of a test is whether it demonstrates that path, not just the parts.

SuperPentest reasons across steps and reproduces the takeover end to end from a clean session, so the report shows the exploit, not a list of maybes. See account-takeover testing.

A concrete example

The password-reset link uses a predictable token, and the profile API leaks the target’s email via IDOR. Neither alone is dramatic; chained, an attacker enumerates an email, forges the reset token, and owns the account. A test that reports “weak token” and “info leak” separately misses the headline. SuperPentest chains them and reproduces the takeover end to end.
